How to Understand Wheel Sizes and Specs

Before you buy alloy wheels, you must know their sizes. If the numbers are wrong, the wheels will not fit your car.

Here is an easy guide to wheel specifications.

Reading the Numbers

A standard wheel size looks like this: 18 x 8.5J PCD 5x112 ET35

• 18 (Diameter): The total size of the wheel in inches.

• 8.5 (Width): How wide the wheel is in inches.

• J (Lip Shape): The shape of the wheel edge. "J" is the most common type for cars.

What is PCD? (e.g., 5x112)

PCD means the bolt pattern. It tells you how the wheel bolts onto your car.

• 5: The number of bolt holes.

• 112: The distance between the holes in millimeters.

• Note: A 5x112 wheel will not fit a car made for 5x114.3. The holes must match exactly.

What is Offset / ET? (e.g., ET35)

ET is the offset. It tells you how deep the wheel sits inside the car.

• High Offset (e.g., ET45): The wheel sits deep inside the car body.

• Low Offset (e.g., ET15): The wheel pushes outside, making the car look wider.

• Warning: If the ET is wrong, the wheel might rub against your brakes or fenders.
